Fisheries is an economic activity that involves harvesting fish or any aquatic organism from the wild (Capture Fisheries) or raising them in confinement (Culture Fisheries/ Aquaculture). It may be Traditional/ Small Scale Fisheries (SSF) for sustenance, or Large-Scale/ Commercial Fisheries for profit.

Fisheries play a crucial role in commercial activities, including the import and export of fish and seafood products, which are significant components of international trade.

Fisheries can be defined as raising and harvesting wild marine and freshwater fishes for food or industrial purposes. As per the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), “…a fishery is an activity leading to the harvest of fish.
